Project Tara

Welcome to Project Tara, the most accurate and comprehensive rehost of the satirical Harry Potter fanfiction novella My Immortal and associated work by its pseudonymous author Tara Gilesbie.

Popularly regarded as the worst fan fiction work of all time, My Immortal describes a love triangle between Harry Potter characters and protagonist Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, an author-insert and soi-disant goth subculture fanatic. Though nominally set in the Harry Potter universe, My Immortal takes heavy liberties with canon in both narrative and character; many characters are given “goffik” makeovers or are portrayed in ways otherwise inconsistent with the books and movies.

Under the username XXXbloodyrists666XXX, Gilesbie published My Immortal’s 44 chapters on FanFiction.NET from 2006 to 2007. primarily from March 4 to June 30, 2006 (with chapters 39 and 40 released by a hacker in November 2006 and chapters 41–45 released in one block on July 5, 2007 to coincide with the release of the Order of the Phoenix film and the Deathly Hallows book) It was taken down from the site circa October 18, 2008, apparently amid a general purge of low-quality or ungrammatical stories by FanFiction.NET moderators. It has survived in screenshots and copy-paste commentaries around the web, some of which have failed to preserve some subtleties like italics present in the original fic. We aim to remedy this by presenting a reasonably authentic copy of what My Immortal would have looked like circa 2007, in addition to several other formats to serve mobile users or unfamiliar readers who might benefit from annotations that explain many of the subtler references in My Immortal.
